The highly anticipated film, “Mother of George,” directed by Nigerian
photographer and filmmaker Andrew Dosumnu (Restless City) had it’s first
screening in New York City at the Angelika Film Center.
The film tells the story of a Nigerian couple living in Brooklyn, New York – their struggles in conceiving a child and the strain this has on African traditional values.
The screening, organized by Applause Africa, hosted many African entertainment
industry professionals such as Nollywood actress Rita Dominic,
America’s Next Top Model’s Nnena, actor Anthony Okungbowa and celebrity
hairstylist Hadiiya Barbel.
Lead actors, Danai Gurira (Ayo), and Isaach De Bankole (Ike) were also in attendance.
